Transport Safety Victoria and BusVic will again deliver Victoria’s Bus Safety Week in 2017, from Monday May 1 to Friday May 5. CDC Victoria along with CDC Melbourne, CDC Geelong and CDC Ballarat will be supporting this campaign.

The campaign will be a joint regulator/industry initiative that aims to reinforce these integral messages:

  1. Increase awareness of the good safety record of bus travel;
  2. That “Safety is a shared responsibility” - we all have a role to play in improving the experience for all.

The week will include:

  • Bus driver appreciation day on Thursday May 4 – Remember to say ‘Hello’ and ‘Thank you’ to your driver
  • Promotional/educational activities at multiple bus interchanges across the metropolitan area and regional centres (see below for details)
  • Safety education sessions at metropolitan and regional schools
  • Promotion/education on board buses by Multi Modal Authorised Officers on the network.

Promotional Activities

Bus Safety Week will involve promotional activities by BAV, TSV, Victoria Police and PTV’s Multi Modal Authorised Officers with support from CDC staff at major bus interchanges at metropolitan locations and regional centres. Those in attendance will handout educational brochures and giveaways while talking to people about bus safety.

Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, announced today that real-time travel information is now available on Geelong’s bus network, making it easier for passengers to plan their journey.

This means local Geelong passengers now have up-to-the-minute information about bus services in and around Geelong.

Previously, passengers only had access to timetable information so there was no way to tell if the bus would be late due to unexpected delays.

The new real-time information – available through the Next 5 feature on the PTV App and website – provides up-to-date information about when the bus will come.

Passengers in the Geelong area already have access to real-time train information on screens at Geelong station, and at five other stations on the Geelong line.

In 2015, stations at Geelong, North Geelong, North Shore, Corio, Lara and Little River had real-time screens installed as part of a $5.8 million investment to provide real-time information at 33 regional stations.

The introduction of real-time bus information follows the introduction of 18 extra train services to Geelong every week in January, on top of the 200 extra services introduced in June 2015 with the opening of Labor’s $3.65 billion Regional Rail Link.

For real-time Geelong bus information, visit ptv.vic.gov.au and click on the Next 5 section.
